Shipping & Returns

Hello! We ship Monday -/ Wed/ Friday and some Saturdays. On US Federal Holidays no mail moves - you *may* see a label print, but it will leave the next mailing day. If we take a short break for vacation, it is announced ahead of time on all social media channels and in the newsletter. Are you signed up for my emails? They often contain treasures!

Please keep shipping insurance (Package Protection) in your cart. If you take it out, you will have to file your own claim with USPS or UPS. While mistakes with the Carriers are rare, they do happen and it's best to have full coverage.

PRE ORDERS ship as stated in the listing -- usually these take some time to arrive. IF YOU COMBINE in stock items with a preorder they will ship TOGETHER at one time. Make a separate order if you need in-stock items sooner. Thanks!!

We ship USPS First class mail and Priority Mail always, never ground. We ship UPS if you choose UPS, OR if it's more economical and faster than USPS.

We DO ship to Canada &most other European countries, also Australia and New Zealand through USPS or UPS if you choose it. We do NOT cover import fees.

Local pick up is an option! Our store is located at 4860 Larson Beach Rd in McFarland, WI. We are open Saturdays 10-4.

Tracking info is ALWAYS sent by email as soon as the label is printed. Check your junk or promotions folders; it could have landed in one of them. After the initial tracking entry when the label is printed, additional tracking updates are provided by the carrier. Follow the tracking link you received by email to check the status on the carrier's site.
Free shipping is offered for domestic customers, on orders over $125.
We have Flat Rate of $7.95 for orders over $100 for domestic customers, but you must choose this option. We will decide on the carrier.

Our mail system is pretty amazing when compared to the rest of the world and we are so grateful to the Carriers that make it happen!

Vinyl is usually rolled and either wrapped in tissue or a protective bag, and sent that way. Some vinyl (soft metallic and moonglow for example) can be folded without causing damage, you can opt to iron it from the back side as well.  In any case, if your vinyl arrives with wrinkles you can simply place it in the sunshine OR use a hair dryer to warm it flat again, or iron it (wrong side only). If you think your vinyl is damaged, please email me and I will take care of you. 😊

**Soft metallic vinyl, Stardust, croc, and Moonglow vinyl CAN be ironed from the wrong side. See my Guide for Sewing Vinyl for more info.

If we made a mistake on your order OR if something arrives damaged, email us so we can fix it. The Sew Hungryhippie team strives for perfect but we are humans & are training new employees... Thank you for your grace.  help@sewhungryhippie.com

Returns are accepted for damaged items and we will send you a return label. Returns for "changing your mind" are accepted at YOUR return shipping expense, and will be processed with a restocking fee of 10%

Thank you for supporting my small business! YOU have made a huge difference in my family's life and I think about it every single day.

Product Description

The Bardot Bucket hat pattern has 3 "head size" options and 3 brim style options, + one novelty size for Pugs or Dolls. 😄 This listing is for the instant PDF download.

The Regular size hat measures 21.5-22" in circumference at the base of the crown. Choose from a small traditional brim measuring 3", a medium brim that measures 5", or the extra wide brim measuring 7" if you like extra coverage like me.

*The "regular size" will fit most heads - if you think you might need a smaller hat, try the small size hat. If you usually need more room for your giant brain or poofy hair, try the large-size hat. This is the joy of sewing amiright? We get to make things that fit our bodies. No pressures, & no squeezies.

There is a complete video walk-through for this pattern if you choose to purchase the course here instead. AO projector files are included in the course.

Fabrics recommended:  wovens such as quilting cotton, lawn, broadcloth, linen, lightweight canvas, chambray, and lightweight types of denim.

Materials required:

1/2 yard exterior fabric -  extra wide brim requires 3/4 yard

1/2 yard lining fabric - extra wide brim requires 3/4 yard

1 & 3/4 yard SF101 for all sizes of hat and brims / You may prefer 2 yards if you aren't good at placement lol

1/2 yard fusible fleece (Pellon 987F)

Pattern pieces need to be printed at 100% - DO NOT SCALE and do not "fit to page".

The Bardot is reversible, packable for travel, giftable, easy to sew, a scrap buster, quick, customizable, and provides a fun way to show your personality!

Love this pattern!

Easy to follow and makes a lovely hat no matter which one you make.

Beginner perspective

This was the first pattern I’ve ever followed start to finish by myself. I did have a lot of help from a very fancy borrowed sewing machine.

I did a couple mockups with scraps to test the size and decided to put some Pellon 809 decor bond interfacing in addition to what was recommended in the pattern because I wanted to be sure the hat wouldn’t hang down over my eyes (on the largest brim size). This of course made sewing the interfacing into the seams really thick but the machine i was on mercifully makes auto adjustments for thickness and tension so that wasn’t a problem. It sure did make turning it inside out a trick though, even with a 4 inch opening.

As a beginner, I found easing the curves to be really tricky. I pulled up a few YouTube videos and decided to hand tack the easing rather than pin it and it worked quite well. I used a different color thread and picked out the hand stitches after the machine stitch.

I have curly hair so I lined the head portion in satin and the brim in the exterior fabric. I’m glad I didn’t attempt to use satin under the brim because it came out super wrinkly even interfaced (I’m assuming that was a beginner issue).

Overall it worked and it’s cute but I can see why people use those petal type shapes to put together a sun hat because you don’t have to futz with easing the curves. It took me an embarrassingly long time. Probably 8+ hours AFTER the mockups. (Again, your experience may vary)

I have made two of these hats so far and I love this pattern so much! I've mostly only sewn bags before so this was a little bit of a challenge for me, but the instructions are so clear and easy, any wonkiness is totally from me. And there was a lot of wonkiness in the first hat, but the second hat had minimal wonkiness. So I am making all the hats!

I love it! Still deciding on my fabric, but down here in FL it’s going to be great year round!
