What’s inside
This guide lists 33 of my skill-building tutorials. Each title is a clickable link that takes you straight to the video, with the run time next to it so you know how long it’ll take. I sorted them by skill so you can go right to what you need:
- Zippers: straight zippers, zipper tabs, zipper pockets, overlays, and when to use a #3 or #5 zip
- Hardware: rivets, press locks, turn locks, bag feet, carpet bag frames and buckles
- Straps and handles: rolled handles, leather straps, strap embellishments, and how to shorten straps after they’re sewn on
- Construction and finishing: boxed corners, linings that fit snugly, and binding (curves too!)
- Vinyl and quilting: sewing vinyl on a home machine, TPU vinyl tips, quilting vinyl and a quilt block
- Garment fixes: a jeans waist gap fix and adding ties to a bucket hat
I left out my long bag-pattern tutorials on purpose. This guide is for building skills, not for sitting down to a two-hour project.
Who it’s for
If you’re new to sewing, start with zippers and boxed corners. Those two skills show up in almost every bag and pouch you’ll make. If you’ve been sewing a while, use it as a quick reference when a pattern asks you to set a rivet or install a turn lock and you want a refresher.
Remember, mistakes are part of learning. Pick one skill, practice it on scraps, and then try it in a real project.
