The Frida Bag is a roomy hand-carry bag with a magnetic snap closure, an exterior zipper pocket, and two interior slip-in pockets.
But what makes the Frida especially fun is that you can tweak the design to make it your own.
The original Frida features a decorative bow on the front panel, but the pattern also includes an option to swap the bow for a second exterior zipper pocket.
So you can make your Frida sweet and decorative, or skip the bow and add more storage. Here are two versions of the Frida to show you just how much a small design change can do.
Frida with the Decorative Bow
The original design features the decorative bow on the front panel. It's a fun little detail that gives the Frida a playful, feminine look.

Frida with the Simple Pocket
Swap the bow for the second exterior zipper pocket. You get a cleaner front while adding another practical pocket to your bag.

Same pattern. Two different looks.
And that's before we even start playing with materials! Change the vinyl, cork, fabric, colors, or textures and you can completely transform the finished Frida.
Meet the Makers' Frida Bags

One pattern can create SO many different looks — and these are just a few of the possibilities. Here are some of our favorite materials to use for the Frida.
The Original Frida Kit
This is the material combination that inspired the original sample, featuring quilted vinyl, Checkered Cork, and bonded nylon.

Try a Different Quilted Vinyl
Switch up the quilted vinyl! A new color or texture can make the whole bag feel different while keeping the same basic design.

Try Chevron Vinyl
For easier sewing, its 1mm thickness and soft backing mean you don't need additional interfacing — saving you time and effort while helping your Frida maintain its beautiful structure.
And of course, the chevron vinyl texture adds a fun, stylish detail to the finished bag! Add a unique zipper pull to complete the look and make your Frida truly your own.

Play With Cork
Cork is another great option for the Frida, especially if you want to add some texture or a fun print. Cheryl switched things up with a completely different strap, using acrylic chain to give her bag a stylish, distinctive finish.

Bring in Quilting Cotton Fabric
Yes, you can make the Frida with your chosen vinyl and quilting cotton, too!
This is where you can really have fun with prints. Florals, geometrics, novelty prints, bold colors — pick something you love and build the rest of the bag around it.

Try Croc Vinyl
Want your Frida to have a little more attitude? Try croc vinyl! The texture gives the bag a completely different look and can make even a simple color feel extra special.
Laura even added an extra detail to the top using our soft vinyl — what a fun touch!!

Go for a Custom Vinyl Print
And then there are the really fun ones: custom vinyl prints!
