This video tutorial is for the Angie Dress Sewing Pattern — a re-launched version of the beloved 2011–2012 Sisboom Angie Dress.
An easy-to-sew, easy-to-customize dress with darts on the bodice (front and back) so it fits beautifully — not like a potato sack!
We carry the printed pattern in the shop here.
This is one of my all-time favorite patterns — and YES, I've made MANY! I first made this back in 2014 with a cotton voile and loved it so much. Since then I've done it in linen, quilting cotton, and rayon.
The back waist has a smidge of elastic to help snatch the waist in without being uncomfortable. The LENGTH is up to you — the skirt panels are simple rectangles, and the pattern includes an excellent graphic showing how different lengths look on different height models.
There is an OPTIONAL sash — which I don't usually use, but it adds an element of elegance if you want it. (Instructions are included.)
In this printed pattern you will get all sizes from XS–3XL. This is over a pound of printed pattern pieces — it's hefty!
Note: There is one tiny printing error when putting the pattern pieces together — very easy to figure out, but I go over it in the video. There is a FRONT bodice and a BACK bodice with shaded areas to put them together properly, so watch the tutorial and you'll be fine.
The video tutorial is included with this pattern purchase. The digital download for the optional Patch Pockets is also included — I talk about my preference for patch pockets over in-seam pockets in the video. The traditional In-Seam pocket pattern piece is printed in the pattern.
Suggested fabrics: Cottons, linens, rayon, cotton-poly blends, quilting cotton, voile, etc.
*As always, do a toile of the bodice to check the fit before cutting into your gorgeous fabric! (I use fabric I don't love anymore or a muslin.)
I am NOT a trained seamstress — if I CAN SEW this dress, YOU CAN TOO! I am self-taught and go in knowing it might not be perfect, but it WILL be wearable and it will be pretty.
