Shipping & Returns

Hello! We ship Monday -/ Wed/ Friday and some Saturdays. On US Federal Holidays no mail moves - you *may* see a label print, but it will leave the next mailing day. If we take a short break for vacation, it is announced ahead of time on all social media channels and in the newsletter. Are you signed up for my emails? They often contain treasures!

Please keep shipping insurance (Package Protection) in your cart. If you take it out, you will have to file your own claim with USPS or UPS. While mistakes with the Carriers are rare, they do happen and it's best to have full coverage.

PRE ORDERS ship as stated in the listing -- usually these take some time to arrive. IF YOU COMBINE in stock items with a preorder they will ship TOGETHER at one time. Make a separate order if you need in-stock items sooner. Thanks!!

We ship USPS First class mail and Priority Mail always, never ground. We ship UPS if you choose UPS, OR if it's more economical and faster than USPS.

We DO ship to Canada &most other European countries, also Australia and New Zealand through USPS or UPS if you choose it. We do NOT cover import fees.

Local pick up is an option! Our store is located at 4860 Larson Beach Rd in McFarland, WI. We are open Wednesdays and Saturdays 12-4.

Tracking info is ALWAYS sent by email as soon as the label is printed. Check your junk or promotions folders; it could have landed in one of them. After the initial tracking entry when the label is printed, additional tracking updates are provided by the carrier. Follow the tracking link you received by email to check the status on the carrier's site.
Free shipping is offered for domestic customers, on orders over $125.
We have Flat Rate of $7.95 for orders over $100 for domestic customers, but you must choose this option. We will decide on the carrier.

Our mail system is pretty amazing when compared to the rest of the world and we are so grateful to the Carriers that make it happen!

Vinyl is usually rolled and either wrapped in tissue or a protective bag, and sent that way. Some vinyl (soft metallic and moonglow for example) can be folded without causing damage, you can opt to iron it from the back side as well.  In any case, if your vinyl arrives with wrinkles you can simply place it in the sunshine OR use a hair dryer to warm it flat again, or iron it (wrong side only). If you think your vinyl is damaged, please email me and I will take care of you. 😊

**Soft metallic vinyl, Stardust, croc, and Moonglow vinyl CAN be ironed from the wrong side. See my Guide for Sewing Vinyl for more info.

If we made a mistake on your order OR if something arrives damaged, email us so we can fix it. The Sew Hungryhippie team strives for perfect but we are humans & are training new employees... Thank you for your grace.  help@sewhungryhippie.com

Returns are accepted for damaged items and we will send you a return label. Returns for "changing your mind" are accepted at YOUR return shipping expense, and will be processed with a restocking fee of 10%

Thank you for supporting my small business! YOU have made a huge difference in my family's life and I think about it every single day.

THIS IS THE PDF instant download pattern. If you need a printed booklet, find it here.

The Santorini Tote is a great bag to make, especially if using unconventional materials such as vinyl or cork. This pattern has three size options, a video walk-through link, and has various hacks, and has been been by hundreds of Sewists.

Three size options are included in the pattern: small or purse size, medium, and large. Finished sizes are approximately (will depend on your bottom corners) 16" x 13",   19" x 16", and 21" x 17".

Pattern pieces are included in the PDF- they are rectangles and are very easy to measure and cut.

The Santorini Tote is a beginner-friendly bag pattern that includes a video walk-through link. YOU CAN make this bag! I often opt to leave the zipper pockets off for a fast finish. Please know you can add or subtract different elements to this design with success.

Here is a video montage of various Santorini Totes in the wild.

If you want to make it patchwork style, I have a video here for you on how I make my patchwork sections.  The video is for a pillow, but it's the same technique. You will treat the patchwork panels as "fabric" once pieced, & then cut to your bag size, and proceed with the pattern.

Included are lots of options to help you build YOUR best bag. Zippered security pockets, slip-in pockets, and zipper installation are all illustrated to help you through each step.

**Zipper sits at the top of this bag. If you are looking for the recessed zipper hack, that add-on is here.**

Materials assuming non-directional:

Purse & Regular size bag:

1/2 YD FOCUS fabric in quilting cotton, canvas, duck cloth, vinyl, upholstery fabric, or faux leather for exterior and straps. OR 1 roll vinyl (18" x 54")
1 YD quilting cotton for lining and optional pockets.
One main zipper cut to size per instructions 16" to 22", depending on the size you're making
1-4 (13”) zippers for optional zipper pockets.
1 YD foam interfacing or fusible fleece for a slouchier bag. I've also layered SF101 successfully and made many Santorini totes from leftover quilt batting. You decide the look you want and go from there.
1.5 YDS Pellon SF101 fusible woven interfacing for the lining and optional pockets.

Large size bag:

1 YD FOCUS fabric OR 1 roll vinyl (18" x 54")

1.5 YDS lining fabric + pockets

(1) 22” main zipper
1 to 4 (13”) zippers for zipper pockets.
1.25 YDS foam interfacing or equivalent, Decovil Light, or fusible
fleece for a slouchier bag.
2 YDS Pellon SF101 fusible woven interfacing or equivalent.

Tools: Teflon sewing foot if using vinyl or leather, a walking foot for layers, sewing clips and/or pins, Chrome universal OR a Microtex sewing needle size 80, acrylic ruler, rotary cutter, iron, and your favorite all-purpose poly blend thread & sewing machine. It is helpful to read my free Guide for Sewing Vinyl if this is your first time

Great Pattern

So much less complicated than many other patterns! I trusted, and it came out great. Will definitely be making more than one. This was made for my 84 year old mother, who loves it when people compliment her on her purse so she can say "my daughter made it!"

I am working on it now

I am very happy with my PDF santorini pattern. I am a confident beginner; as I have made a lot of zipper pouches and decided to advance to a tote bag. This bag has a great look to it without my having to learn and invest in hardware. I have the bag partially done and I am pleased with both the written instructions and the video. I have ordered faux leather to make a second one.

A good and versatile pattern

I made the purse size, which is still a decent sized bag, and I think it came out great for my first santerini bag. The fact that you can make it in different ways and different sizes makes this bag wonderfully diverse. Fun to make and good looking too!

Love the tote but didn’t make any zippered pockets. The instructions weren’t clear and I didn’t want to ruin the fabric. Will try on practice material. Wish you had a video on that portion.

But overall I love my bags!!!!

Santorini Tote Bag Pattern

The Santorini tote bag is the first pattern I’ve purchased from Sew Hungry Hippie, and I couldn’t be happier! I used the version with the contrast bottom, with Moonglow vinyl from their store. The directions were so clear, detailed and super easy to follow. It looks stunning with their zipper as well. I get compliments everywhere I go! I will surely be making more!
